I really enjoyed Kotoba-day and the school field trip to Yamanashi.

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

I really enjoyed Kotoba-day and the school field trip to Yamanashi. These two experiences allowed me, and other students, to experience Japanese and culture directly as well as practice our language skills we were learning in class.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

The most productive/beneficial aspect of the program for me was the full Japanese immersion which really tested and improved my Japanese Language skills. The least productive aspect was the Kanji studies, but I think Kanji is particularly difficult for me because of my memory complications and dyslexia. I would have liked more kanji focus in my classes.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

My favourite activities were the ones that allowed for authentic Japanese communication such as the oral exam or the writing essays. These types of activities are much more memorable for me than drills and tests.

Anything you especially liked in the living arrangements? Any problems you experienced?

I was pleasantly surprised with Azeria Kasai II. The room was very spacious with lots of work room, and a nice air conditioner. The dorm manager and workers there were all spectacular. The cafeteria was very affordable and delicious every time. I don't think I could ask for a better dormitory.

Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?

The classes and full immersion environment will be really difficult and demand a lot of work form you, but in time you will get a good grasp of the school and environment. You will end the program feeling accomplished and with tonnes of Japanese experience under your belt, so hang in there and do your best!

Testimonials

KCP is a really great program and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about studying Japanese in Tokyo. Although intense the sense of achievement by the end of just two and a half months is huge.
